A bench warrant was issued Thursday in Washington County Circuit Court for the arrest of a 28-year-old Hagerstown man who didn't appear for his trial on charges of second-degree rape, third-degree sex offense and second-degree assault.

Brian Joseph Dawson, whose last known address was 324 N. Locust St., failed to appear in court Thursday for a trial he requested July 14, waiving his right to a speedy trial, documents state.

Circuit Judge Frederick C. Wright III issued a bench warrant for Dawson's arrest. He ordered that his $25,000 bond be forfeited.

According to charging documents, Dawson had sex with a 13-year-old girl between July and August 2004 at his home. The girl told police she became pregnant and that Dawson, who at the time was 27, was the only person with whom she had had sex, documents state.
