Clear Spring's Boden, Shirk win scholarships

CLEAR SPRING ? Robert Boden Jr. and Lindsay Shirk of Clear Spring High School have been awarded $1,000 National FFA-Ford Trucks/Built Ford Tough scholarships.

Boden, the son of Robert and Nora Boden of Hagers-town, was president of the Clear Spring FFA chapter last year. He participated in the Land Judging, Ag Sales, Milk Quality and Dairy Products and Environmental Resource Management Career Development events.

He was a gold medallist and $500 scholarship winner in the Environmental Re-source Management Career Development Event at the National FFA convention last fall. Boden's SAE involved raising beef and dairy heifers and crop farming. In the future, he plans to own a farming operation.

Shirk, the daughter of Edwin and Bonnie Shirk of Clear Spring, was vice president of the chapter last year. Shirk participated in the Land Judging and Milk Quality and Dairy Foods Career events. She was on the Farm Business Management and Forestry teams, representing Maryland at the National FFA convention.

She is the president of the Maryland FFA this year. Her SAE involves raising and exhibiting horses. She is attending Hagerstown Community College with plans to pursue a career in environmental science.

Susan Lowery and Terrie Shank are the agricultural education teachers and FFA advisers at Clear Spring.
