MARTINSBURG, W.Va.

They sipped coffee, munched on biscuits and chatted. At least one woman was knitting Saturday as she rocked in a rocking chair on the porch of the Cracker Barrel in Martinsburg.

They also were raising money as they rocked.

The annual "Rocking Chair-ity" event held by City Hospital's auxiliary raised around $2,500, City Hospital spokeswoman Teresa McCabe said.

The event was held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Along with donating use of its porch, Cracker Barrel also set aside a rocking chair. Tickets were sold for a chance to win it, with proceeds forwarded to the auxiliary.

The money raised will be used to buy wheelchairs for the hospital, McCabe said.

"We always seem to need wheelchairs," she said.
