The Adkinses

Mr. and Mrs. Lee E. Adkins of Hagerstown were honored Saturday, July 20, 2005, at a reception at the Hagerstown Elks Lodge celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. The event, hosted by their daughter, Kathy Shantz, and Mrs. Adkins' sister, Marion Smith, was attended by 85 guests, including family members from Florida and Kentucky.

The Adkinses renewed their wedding vows in a ceremony conducted by their friend, Kevin Smoot.

Mrs. Adkins is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lester Reeder Sr. She retired from Hagerstown Community College. She is still active in the college athletic department, volunteers at the John R. Marsh Cancer Center and at the front desk at Washington County Hospital.

Mr. Adkins is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Harry E. Adkins. He retired from General Motors in Martinsburg, W.Va. He also is involved with the athletic department of Hagerstown Community College.

They have two granddaughters.

The Custers

Mr. and Mrs. Donald E. Custer of Hagerstown celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at a private dinner with family Saturday, July 2, 2005.

The Custers were married July 2, 1955, at Grace Brethren Church in Hagerstown by the Rev. Webber.

Mrs. Custer is the former Josephine Roberts, daughter of the late Violet and Joseph Roberts. She has worked for many years as a caregiver with the elderly.

Mr. Custer is the son of the late Ruth and William Custer. He retired from Jamison Door Co., after 40 years of service.

The dinner was attended by their children, Steve and Linda Custer of Penn National, Pa.; Donna and Jimmy Bussard of Derwood, Md.; and Jodi and David Becker of Smithsburg; and their two granddaughters.

The Martins

Mr. and Mrs. Joe Martin of Greencastle, Pa., celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary Friday, June 10, 2005, at a party at Mountain Gate Restaurant. The event was hosted by their sons and spouses, Eric and Shannon Martin and Tony and Heather Martin. More than 50 friends and relatives from several states attended the celebration.

The Martins were married June 26, 1965, at Salem Ridge Mennonite Church in Greencastle.

Mrs. Martin is the former Ruth Ann Showalter, daughter of Laban Showalter and the late Ethel Showalter.

Mr. Martin is the son of the late Glenn and Mary Martin. He retired from Salem Ridge Mennonite Church, where he was minister for 23 years. He is now employed with Foremost Industries in Mercersburg, Pa.
