Shanksville pastor to speak at Letterkenny Chapel's

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The pastor who organized the first memorial service at the crash site of United Airlines Flight 93 on Sept. 11, 2001, will be the speaker for the annual service of remembrance for the victims of the terrorist attacks Sunday at Letterkenny Chapel.

The Rev. Jay E. Shaffer of Unity United Church of Christ in Shanksville, Pa., will be the speaker at the 4 p.m. service at the depot chapel. Shaffer, who ministered to emergency and rescue personnel at the crash site, will be joined by Chambersburg area clergy and lay persons in leading the service.

A dairy farmer and graduate of the Lancaster (Pa.) Theological Seminary, Shaffer is president of the Shanksville Ministerium and a director of the Somerset County Blind Center and Hoffman Homes for Youth in Gettysburg, Pa.

Nelson Kost will play the organ at the service and the colors will be presented by the Charles F. Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 honor guard. The public is invited.
