September 06, 2005

The Hagerstown Suns finished the regular season with two good thoughts.

First, the Suns ended on a winning note with a 7-2 win over the Lexington Legends on Sunday in front of 2,2,83 fans at Municipal Stadium.

Second, the leather and lumber does not get stored just yet for the winter as the Suns open the postseason on Wednesday in the best-of-3 playoff series against the Delmarva Shorebirds.

The Suns hit the road for a 7:05 contest, and after a day off, meet Delmarva in the second game of the set on Friday at 7:05. If necessary, the third game will be played at home on Saturday at 7:05 to determine the Northern Division champion.

After knocking Lexington from a chance to win the second half on Saturday with a 10-inning 4-3 victory, the Suns broke a 2-2 tie on sunday with a five-run sixth inning.

Lexington made a pitching change to Evan Englebrook and the Suns went wild, beginning with a single by Ambiorix Concepcion, who had three hits in the game.

Matt Bacon had a key two-run single and Mtt fisher also brought in two runs on a triple.

The Suns also announced following Sunday's game the total attendance for 2005 was 153,675 going through the turnstile, representing an increase of nearly 20 percent over 2004 and the best attendance since 1991.

In the past two years, the Suns have seen an attendance increase of 52 percent.
