Martinsburg hospital auxiliary to host rocking fundraiser

September 06, 2005

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - The Auxiliary of City Hospital will sponsor its seventh annual Rocking Chair-ity Day on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Martinsburg Cracker Barrel Restaurant.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will be used to purchase wheelchairs for City Hospital.

Age and skill are not an issue for the event since individuals of all ages can participate. There will be plenty of rocking chairs, including smaller versions for the youngest of rockers. Anyone may sign up for as many half-hour segments of rocking as they wish, getting others to sponsor their efforts. Sponsors can make donations on a one-time basis or for each half-hour rocked.

"The entire community is invited to join us for a day of fellowship while supporting a great cause," says Ruth Ann Painter, auxiliary president.

In the same tradition as years past, the restaurant will provide food and drinks to rockers and each rocker will be entered into the drawing for the rocking chair. An additional prize will be awarded to the person who raises the most money.
