Fiber arts group to meet


The Roundtable, a fiber arts discussion group, sponsored by Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown, will open its 2005-06 schedule at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, with a session on Undulating Twills by Barbara Diefenderfer. The group, open to all persons interested in the art of weaving, is held the second Wednesday of each month from September through June. For information, call the museum at 301-739-5727.




Miniature art sought


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Entries will be accepted until Saturday, Oct. 1, for the Council for the Arts' "Miniature Art 2005" exhibition to be held Thursday, Nov. 3, through Saturday, Jan. 7. "Miniature Art 2005" carries on a 21-year tradition of miniature art exhibitions originated by "A Little Gallery" of Mont Alto, Pa.

The exhibition received 303 entries from artists from all across the country last year, and sold almost $6,000 worth of art. This year's show will be juried and judged by Stephanie Nadolski of Shady Side, Md.

The deadline for entries is Saturday, Oct. 1. Artists may submit up to four works, each with image size no greater than 4 inches by 6 inches, not to exceed 24 square inches; framed pieces should not exceed 48 square inches and all works must be framed. Original work only will be accepted in any fine arts media. No copies, crafts, jewelry, photography, laser prints or computer-generated work will be accepted. Sculpture is encouraged and should not exceed 5 inches in any dimension. Awards will be offered as follows: Best of show, $300; and three merit awards, $100 each. A 25 percent commission will be charged on all sales. The entry fee for one to four works is $25; an additional $8 will be charged for return shipping and insurance on works not hand delivered.
