CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Friday's fire at Chambersburg Waste Paper Co. Inc. on Loop Road destroyed the business, a fire chief said Saturday.

"They had pretty much 100 percent total loss" to the building and its contents, said James Hammond, chief of the Franklin Fire Co.

Hammond said damage was estimated to be "in the millions" of dollars, but the property was insured.

The 31-year-old business recycles waste paper and cardboard.

Fire also consumed over-the-road box trailers, as well as large bales of baled paper or cardboard inside and outside the building.

Hammond said the cause of the fire hadn't been determined. A Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal was investigating.

The fire was discovered Friday about 6:45 p.m. Hammond said firefighters stayed on the scene until about 3 a.m. Saturday.

More than 75 firefighters from departments in Pennsylvania and Maryland helped on the call.

No one was injured.
