Body found in W.Va. hotel

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - A Harpers Ferry, W.Va., man has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of a man whose body was found Thursday afternoon in a room at the Town House Motor Lodge, according to Douglas Nichols, interim chief of the Charles Town Police Department.

Richard Allen Ashbaugh, 37, is also charged with distribution of heroin, Nichols said this morning.

The dead man has been identified as Jonathan Parks, 26, of Brunswick, Md., Nichols said. His death, which has been ruled a murder, was by way of an overdose of heroin.

Nichols said the body was found in room 344 in the motel on East Washington Street around 5:50 p.m.

Lt. Steve Harris was leading the investigation, Douglas said.

No further information was available this morning.
