TIMONIUM, Md. ? Saturday's 4-H/FFA Livestock Sale at the Maryland State Fair was the culmination of a year's worth of hard work and competition by 4-H/FFA youth.
Each youth received the proceeds raised from the sale of his or her livestock to invest in schooling or a new livestock project.
According to state fair officials, here's what the top animals brought:
- Claire Bennett of Carroll County sold her 85-pound Grand Champion Market Goat to state 4-H leader Richard Byrne for $5 per pound.
- Cory Krietz of Frederick County sold his 1,369-pound Grand Champion Market Steer to Eddie Mercer Agri Service and Darling & Daughters Car Quest for $6 per pound.
- Ashley Ridenour of Frederick County sold her 254-pound Grand Champion Market Hog to Deggeller Attractions for $4 per pound.
- Chris Utz of Carroll County sold his 127-pound Grand Champion Market Lamb to attorney Bill Marlow for $3 per pound.
