Fairs hopping with activities

Three county fairs are under way in the Tri-State area and will continue through Saturday. Here is a schedule of upcoming highlights for the fairs in Franklin and Fulton counties in Pennsylvania, and the Jefferson County Fair in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia:

Franklin County, Pa.


The Franklin County Fair is held at the Chambersburg Rod and Gun Club off Pa. 995 in Williamson, Pa.

Today's events include:

  • 4 p.m. - Youth Rabbit Show

  • 6 p.m. - 4-H Rabbit Showmanship

  • 6:30 p.m. - Franklin County Fair Little Miss Contest, midway stage

  • 7 p.m. - 4-H and FFA Dairy Judging

  • 7:30 p.m. - Horse pull, arena

  • 8 p.m. - Miss Franklin County Fair Contest, midway stage


Tuesday's event include:

  • 7 p.m. - Skid steer operator rodeo

  • 7 p.m. - Karaoke contest (check-in at 6:45 p.m.)





Fulton County, Pa.


The Fulton County Fair is at the Fulton County Fairgrounds, 888 Lincoln Way East, McConnellsburg, Pa.

Today's events include:

  • 7:30 p.m. - Compact car demolition derby

  • 9:30 p.m. - Baked goods sale


Tuesday's events include:

  • 2:30 to 10 p.m. - Family day

  • 7 p.m. - Classic tractor pull with minimodified trucks and minirod tractors

  • 8:30 p.m. - Bike giveaway


Wednesday's events include:

  • 6 p.m. - Horse pie bingo

  • 7:30 p.m. - Full-size car demolition derby





Jefferson County, W.Va.


The Jefferson County Fair is at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, three miles west of Charles Town, W.Va., on Leetown Pike.

Today's events include:

  • 1 p.m. - 4-H Club rocket launch

  • 6 p.m. - Kiddie tractor pull

  • 6:30 to 9 p.m. - High school and middle school bands perform


Tuesday's events include:

  • 6 p.m. - Kiddie tractor pull

  • 7:30 p.m. - Figure 8 demolition derby

  • 8:30 p.m. - Watermelon-eating contest
