Three charged in shooting

Hagerstown police charged three men in connection with a shooting Friday morning to the rear of Days Inn at 900 Dual Highway in which the victim suffered a gunshot wound to his left foot, according to a release from the Hagerstown Police Department.

Police were summoned to the Days Inn about 4:16 a.m. for a report of a victim of a gunshot wound. After finding the victim and several witnesses to the rear of the motel, police were told that the shooting followed an altercation between the victim and the suspects, who attempted to flee in a vehicle.

Police stopped the vehicle, recovered two handguns and charged three of the four occupants.

Paul Lawrence Rankin Jr., 25, of Suitland, Md., was charged with attempted murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, use of a handgun in commission of a crime and carrying a concealed weapon.

Troy Brian Miller, 25, of Seat Pleasant, Md., was charged with carrying a concealed weapon.

Jamal Timothy Hawkins, 21, of Washington, D.C., was charged with carrying a concealed weapon.

The victim, an adult male whose name was not disclosed, was being treated Friday morning at Washington County Hospital, police said.

Police are continuing their investigation.
