Five injured in Friday accident in Leitersburg

LEITERSBURG

A two-vehicle accident Friday night at the intersection of Little Antietam Road and Leitersburg Pike sent five people to Washington County Hospital for treatment, according to a written release from Maryland State Police.

The accident, which was reported at 10:17 p.m., occurred when a 2001 Chevrolet Blazer, traveling west on Leitersburg Pike, was struck by a 2005 Honda Civic, which had failed to stop at a stop sign after traveling north on Little Antietam Road, the release states.

The driver of the Honda Civic, Ryan David Klipp, 25, of Hagerstown, was charged with failure to obey a traffic control device, police said.

Klipp and his passenger, Nicole Klipp, were transported to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet Blazer, Leslie Bittner, 24, of Waynesboro, Pa., and passengers Robyn Greene and Sarah Zentmyer, both of Waynesboro, were transported to the hospital for treatment of nonlife threatening injuries, the release states.

The road was closed for about an hour in both directions during investigation into the accident, police said.
