Local roundup - Bulldogs start year with tie

BECKLEY, W.Va. - Martinsburg opened its season Friday at the Beckley Tournament with a 1-1 tie against Princeton.

Kristen Marshall opened the scoring five minutes in on assists from Laurel Bobo and Lauren Crowell. Bulldogs goalkeeper Carolyn Gore, who recorded 12 saves, kept Princeton off the board until the final minutes when Tesla Akers scored the tying goal.

Martinsburg (0-0-1) will face Woodrow Wilson this morning at 10.


Thunder softball tryouts

The Tri-State Thunder, a girls select fast-pitch travel program based in Hagerstown, will be holding tryouts for the Fall 2005 and Summer 2006 seasons this Sunday as well as Aug. 28. They will be held from 4-7 p.m. at the Pinesburg complex in Williamsport. Tryouts are open to players in the 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U and 18U age groups. River City Rippers tryouts

The River City Rippers fast-pitch softball traveling team is holding tryouts for its 14U and 16U 2006 teams.
