Suns jolt Crawdads in 11th

August 18, 2005

Hagerstown scorched the hit column on Wednesday night and fortunately for the Suns, two were saved until the 11th inning that helped produce a 3-2 win over the Hickory Crawdads.

The Suns had 15 hits against Hickory, but couldn't put the locks on a third straight, one-run win over the Crawdads before going extra innings.

Rafael Arroyo led off Hagerstown's 11th inning with a walk and went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Joe Michalics. An infield hit by Matt fisher moved Arroyo to third and Carlos Gomez's third hit of the game, a ground single to left, brought Arroyo in for the victory.

The Suns (17-30 in second half, 59-58 overall) had taken a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a single by Mihalics that scored Kyle Brown.

After Hickory tallied two runs in the sixth,

the Suns tied the game 2-2 in the seventh on Matt Fisher's first home run of the season.

While Edgar Alfonzo picked up the win in relief, it was Joe Serfass who pitched four innings of three-strikeout, one-hit relief that kept the Suns in the game.

Kevin Mannix started for the Suns and kept Hickory off the board through five innings despite giving up seven hits.

Fisher also had three hits for the Suns.
