Police say robbers hit deliveryman with a bat

August 18, 2005|by ANDREW SCHOTZ

Three men who robbed a pizza deliveryman on Tuesday had a gun and a baseball bat, Hagerstown Police confirmed Wednesday.

The driver was hit in the head with the bat during the robbery, police said.

The 28-year-old Pizza Hut deliveryman was taken to Washington County Hospital. His injuries were not life-threatening, police said.

Since police would not give out the man's name, The Herald-Mail could not check his condition Wednesday.

Police said the man was trying to make a delivery in the 1100 block of Kenly Avenue near where East Wilson Boulevard meets Frederick Street.

Just before 10 p.m., the three robbers ordered the driver to the ground and took some of his possessions out of his pocket. They hit him with the bat, police said.

Police said the robbers stole about $100 and the man's phone, then ran away.
