"I would like to know why we keep sending shuttles into space and wasting all that money. Are they going to build a Wal-Mart there?"

"The self-appointed neighborhood watch persons in Greenberry seem to have now become the neighborhood advisers. If those who want lights would install their own security lights, it would be a one-time expense, installed exactly where wanted. The cost would not increase in the future as would certainly happen with these other lights."

- Halfway

"The recent comment by Jerry Falwell regarding 'voting Christian in 2008' only goes to typify what is wrong with America today. There is no tolerance toward centralists or even beliefs of people from the left wing. The so-called moral Christian movement (which is neither, by the way) is monopolizing the society today and is making society much worse than it has ever been. It is denigrating society."

- Hagerstown

"I am pretty disgusted. Boonsboro put in a new water line from Boonsboro to Keedysville. The charge was $19 every three months until the bill was paid, but it seems like that bill has never been paid, because they're still charging us $19. Now they come along with $7.50 for the Chesapeake Bay. Let them put a toll on that bridge and use that to clean up the bay, not take every person who has a water bill and add that to it."

- Boonsboro

"An article in the American Legion magazine stated that of the millions of barrels of oil that are produced by the Alaskan pipeline each and every year, one-tenth stays in the United States. The rest is shipped to foreign countries, including those that are openly opposed to us - like North Korea, for example. Why doesn't the federal government explain this to us? Remember these things at the next Congressional election."

- Hagerstown

"Arlington National Cemetery is a place of honor. How honorable is it to murder an elderly couple? Russell Wagner should not be buried there; he lost that right when he decided on murder. Don't bury the shameful among the honorable, please."

- Clear Spring

"Thank you, Jim Titus, for making summer more tolerable and peaceful for seniors. It's very pleasant listening to the beautiful music from 3 to 5. It just brightens my day."

- Washington County

"I think people should stop complaining about the cats, and everybody congratulating the cats. If they don't want to read it, they can just skip over it."

- Hagerstown

"Do you think President Bush deserves five weeks of vacation when he's sending our youth to be killed in Iraq, and the gas prices are over the top? What do you think?"

- Funkstown

"My dog can bark backwards from 10 to 0."

- Sharpsburg

"This is for all the people who voted to put Bush back in office. With more than 1,800 of our young people dead now, in a war that we should never have gotten into, how do you feel now about putting him back in as president?"

- Hagerstown

"I am a resident of West Church Street in the West End, and I was just wondering, what is the matter with our mail? We don't get our mail until 6 o'clock in the evening. There is definitely something wrong with this system."

- Hagerstown

"Don't people who complain about the items about cats and other unnecessary things understand that those are simply jokes? Lighten up; laugh a little."

- Hagerstown

"In reference to the Arlington National Cemetery burial, I feel that the man served his time before the murders, and has the right to be there."

- Hagerstown

"I have a comment to make about all the people who turn up missing from boats in ocean areas. Don't you think that maybe they drowned or maybe sharks ate them, because nobody finds any bodies."

- Hagerstown

"I'm calling about the North High stadium. I'm a 2002 graduate of North Hagerstown High School and I believe that the school is well-respected, with well-rounded students, and we deserve this. People need to stop complaining. We have a great graduation percentage, and people do continue to go to college, so they deserve it. Heads up to North High."
