Opening day delayed for schools in Tuscarora School District

August 13, 2005

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Concerned about air quality stemming from major renovations at three Tuscarora School District schools, officials decided this week to postpone the opening of classes for the 2005-06 school year from Aug. 29 to Sept. 8.

Rick Kerr, business manager for the district, said Friday that contractors working on James Buchanan Middle School and Montgomery Township and Mountain View elementary schools will complete the renovations by Aug. 25, but that would only leave four days to get the buildings ready for classes Aug. 29.

The two elementary schools were emptied out when the work began and their equipment is being kept in storage trailers until the renovations are complete, Kerr said.

In addition, floors in all three building have to be cleaned and waxed before students come in, he said.
