August 12, 2005

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Greensboro's Brian Cleveland hit a two-out grand slam off Hagerstown starter Kevin Mannix in the bottom of the fourth inning to break a 2-2 tie and the Grasshoppers never relinquished the lead, beating the Suns 9-7 on Thursday night.

Trailing 9-3, Hagerstown (13-29 second half, 55-57 overall) got back in the game with a three-run seventh against reliever Patrick Hogan. With the bases loaded and no outs, Matthew Fisher drove in a run on a fielder's-choice out at second. Russ Triplett followed with a sacrifice fly to center and Carlos Gomez cut the deficit to 9-6 with an RBI single to right.

The Suns made it 9-7 in the eighth. Ambiorix Concepcion led off with a double to right, stole third and scored on catcher Bradley Davis' throwing error.

Hagerstown brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth after Carlos Gomez drew a two-out walk, but Greensboro closer Chris Mobley struck out Rafael Arroyo to pick up his 30th save.
