Scarborough Society hosting Aug. 20 gala

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - The Scarborough Society, a friends-of-the-library organization supporting Shepherd University's Scarborough Library, will host its fourth annual gala Saturday, Aug. 20, at 6:30 p.m. at the Clarion Hotel Ballroom in Shepherdstown.

The theme for this year's gala, "Under the Tuscan Sun," reflects the warm and charming Italian getaway described by poet and essayist Frances Mayes in her account of buying and restoring an abandoned farmhouse in Tuscany. The invitation list includes Scarborough members, guests and friends of the university. Proceeds from the event will support the society's activities to benefit the library.

This year's presenting sponsors for the event are BB&T Wealth Management and Jefferson Security Bank. Committee members for the event include Sara Lueck, Mary Jane Davis, Kathy Klein, Susanne Horner, Phyllis Smock, Jody Carter, Monica Lingenfelter, Cathy Nevy, Rhiannon Smith and Sharon Henderson.
