The Washington County Commissioners are looking for people to serve on the PenMar Development Corp. board of directors.

The board, which has 15 seats, currently has three vacancies.

PenMar was created by the state in 1997 to redevelop the former Fort Ritchie U.S. Army base in Cascade.

The Army closed the base in 1998.

Commissioners President Gregory I. Snook said anyone interested in volunteering for the board should send a rsum to him at 100 W. Washington St., Hagerstown, MD 21740.

Commissioners Vice President William J. Wivell said rsums may also be sent to County Clerk Joni Bittner at the above address.

Applicants also may apply online at

Wivell said the county's preference is for Washington County residents to serve, but anyone in areas affected by the base closure may apply.

"I don't imagine we're going to have a huge rush," Wivell said.
