Social Services board elects officers

The Washington County Board of Social Services on May 23 elected new officers for 2005-06. They include Nicole R. Houser, chair, Roland F. Smith, vice chair, and Spence Perry, secretary.

As leader of the board, Houser brings years of community experience and has been a member of the Washington County Board of Social Services since 2001. She is employed as executive secretary of The Greater Hagerstown Committee Inc.

She currently serves as a board member of the Leadership Hagerstown Alumni Association. She also served as a past member of the Advisory Committee, Healthy Families, Washington County from 2000 to 2003 and was president of Washington County Family Day Care Providers Association from 1994 to 1996.

Smith retired from Jamison Door Co. as president and CEO in 1996. He served on the board of trustees for the Washington County Hospital Association from 1985 to 1997, on the board of directors for Horizon Goodwill Industries from 1984 to 1987 and from 1997 to 2003, and is a member of the Hagerstown Rotary.

Perry retired from a career as an attorney with the federal government. He served as president of the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts from 2002 to 2005 and is the chairman of the board for Horizon Goodwill Industries.

The Washington County Department of Social Services is a field liaison of the Maryland Department of Human Resources.
