Boy, 12, dies after being struck by car

FREDERICK, Md. - A 12-year-old boy died Thursday as a result of injuries he suffered two days earlier when he was struck by a car near Frederick, the Frederick County Sheriff's Office said.

Police were called to the accident at 5:17 p.m. Tuesday and discovered Mohammed Yussuf, who had been struck while crossing New Design Road near Robin Drive, according to a news release.

Police said Amy Winter, 30, of Knoxville, Md., was driving southbound in a 1992 Cadillac DeVille when the car struck Yussuf.

Yussuf, who lived in Frederick, was flown by Maryland State Police helicopter to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore for treatment.

Police said a traffic investigation is continuing.
