Funkstown rained out

Funkstown Post 211 had to wait until today to start play in the Maryland state tournament, as its game against two-time defending champion Gaithersburg Post 295 was rained out.

Funkstown will play Gaithersburg this morning at 9:30 - one of two games Funkstown will play today. The time and opponent for the second game is to be determined.

All-night softball tournament

An all-night softball tournament, open to all Class D, E and church league teams, will be held at Leetown Park in Leetown, W.Va., on Friday, Aug. 5 starting at 7 p.m. Cost is $150 per team with a three-game guarantee. Thunder fast-pitch tryouts

The Tri-State Thunder 14U Silver and 14U Black fast-pitch girls travel softball teams are holding early-bird tryouts on Monday and Thursday at Grace Academy starting at 6 p.m. Girls born from 1991 to '93 are eligible. Blaze fast-pitch tryouts

The Mason Dixon Blaze fastpitch travel softball team will hold tryouts at Kauffman Community Center north of Greencastle, Pa, on Sunday from 1-3 p.m. for U12 players and 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. for U14 players. Softball pitching clinic

The Mason Dixon Blaze is hosting a fastpitch pitching clinic with world class pitcher and instructor Bill Hillhouse on Aug. 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. inside the Greencastle Middle School gym. Cost per attendee is S25 and each pitcher must have her own catcher. Deadline for enrollment is Aug. 20.
