State law changes benefit artists, property owners

July 25, 2005

Artists who are residents of Washington County, as well as persons who own property in Hagerstown's Arts and Entertainment district can take advantage of special Maryland State tax benefits. Among those benefits are:

  • A property tax credit on arts-related renovations or new construction for the arts upon demolition of a defunct commercial building.

An income tax credit for qualifying residing artists on income derived from the Arts and Entertainment district.

During the 2005 legislative session, the General Assembly of Maryland enacted several changes to the statutes pertaining to Arts and Entertainment districts in Maryland, Governor Ehrlich signed them into law.
