June restaurant inspections

The following food service establishments were inspected by the Washington County Health Department in June 2005 and found to have critical violations that needed to be corrected immediately:

Texas Roadhouse, 120 S. Edgewood Drive, Hagerstown - * potentially hazardous food such as fish, macaroni and cheese, potatoes in refrigerator not cold enough (corrected); hand sink cannot be obstructed (corrected); hand washing supplies needed at hand sink (corrected); seal needed where hand sink meets the wall; shields needed on light bulbs.

I-Mart, 18403 Maugans Ave., Hagerstown - * potentially hazardous food such as barbecued chicken in steam table not hot enough (corrected); light bulbs needed in coolers and light bulb shield near three-compartment sink; overhead protection needed at grill; thermometer needed to check internal food temperatures.

Tops Buffet, 18730 North Village Plaza, Hagerstown - * potentially hazardous food such as cut fruit and pudding not cold enough (corrected); screen door holes and gaps must be repaired; rear door gaps must be repaired to prevent vermin entry; trash container must be covered; thermometers needed in all units; cardboard cannot be used as shelf liners; metal countertop must be repaired or replaced; exhaust hood filters need to be cleaned; foil cannot be used for lining fire suppression and gas piping; missing baseboard must be replaced; floor under cooking line needs to be cleaned; must have chemical test kit at dish machine; drain lines for ice machine not adequately protected against backflow; must replace light bulbs; cooler floor must be smooth and cleanable; mop sink water must be restored; need approved hazard plan.

Pizza Hut, 1085 Maryland Ave., Hagerstown - ice scoop improperly stored in ice bin (corrected); paper towels needed at hand sink (corrected); replace missing light bulbs, light shields and seal on door to walk-in refrigerator.

Domino's Pizza, 18404 Maugans Ave., Hagerstown - exhaust hood filters need to be cleaned.

Shoney's, 17301 Valley Mall Road, Hagerstown - ice scoop improperly stored in ice bin (corrected); floors in walk-in freezer and food preparation area must be cleaned (corrected); seal gap between hand sink and wall; ceiling in dry storage room must be cleaned and repaired.

Subway, 491 Prime Outlets Blvd., Hagerstown - ice scoop improperly stored in ice bin (corrected).

Smoothie Hut, 495 Prime Outlets Blvd., Hagerstown - ice scoop improperly stored in ice bin (corrected).

Pizza Hut, 100 Railway Lane, Hagerstown - cups cannot be used as scoops for pizza toppings (corrected); shelving in walk-in must be cleaned; paper towel dispenser at hand sink must be replaced.

Sheetz, 100 E. Potomac St., Williamsport - air gap from pipe of three-compartment sink is inadequate for back flow protection; boxes of rolls cannot be stored on floor of freezer.

Burger King, 17532 Valley Mall Road, Hagerstown - thermometers needed in all units; replace broken light shield; repair seal between hand sink and wall.

Daydreams Cafe, 46 W. Main St., Hancock - must post state license; paper towels and other hand washing supplies needed at hand sinks.

McDonald's, 17850 Garland Groh Blvd., Hagerstown - paper towels needed at hand sink (corrected); thermometers needed in all units (corrected); soda dispenser nozzles must be cleaned.

Homewood Model Programs, Elliott Parkway, Williamsport - replace light bulb under exhaust hood.

Marcel's Bakery and Cafe Inc., 45 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown - seal all openings to prevent vermin infestation; have roof leak repaired; insect and roach presence in bakery and kitchen must be eliminated; items cannot be stored on floor; cooked food cannot be stored under raw food; thermometers needed in all units; cutting boards throughout must be cleaned; self-closing doors needed to storage rooms; three-compartment sinks must be labeled; sanitizing test strips needed; caulking needed between sinks and walls; wiping cloths must be stored in sanitizer; replace light bulb under hood; remove shelves over range.

Merlin's Tavern Inc., 1005 W. Washington St., Hagerstown - must clean and sanitize floors, ceiling and walls in kitchen; chest freezer must be defrosted; stained ceiling tiles must be replaced; gasket in door of walk-in cooler must be replaced; trees around rear and side of building must be removed to prevent places for vermin; seal openings and provide smooth, cleanable surfaces.

Always Ron's, 29 N. Burhans Blvd., Hagerstown - clean, sanitize and resurface cutting boards; clean and sanitize slicer; seal openings to prevent vermin infestation; clean exhaust hood, canopy and ceiling of grease buildup; clean inside of ice machine; remove tires from rear of building to prevent breeding of mosquitos.
