Suns lose long battle

July 23, 2005

EASTLAKE, Ohio - For the second time in a week, the Hagerstown Suns went 14 innings, this time losing to Lake County, 6-5.

Hagerstown, 10-16 in the South Atlantic League in the second half, went on top 5-4 in the top of the 14th inning as Derran Watts singled and moved to second base on a sacrifice by Jim Burt.

Watts moved to third on a groundout and scored on a double by Matthew Fisher.

However, Lake County came back against Suns reliever Jose Gomez with two runs.

Gomez gave up a double and walk and after two were out, allowed the game-winner on a single by Josh Noviskey.

Ambiorix Concepcion and Mike Carp had three hits apiece for the Suns, who return home tonight to open a two-game series against Lake County.

Concepcion had tied the game, 4-4, in the top of the eighth inning when he drilled his 12th home run of the year.

Joe Serfass pitched four innings of three-hit relief before giving way to Gomez.

Brian Finegan and Wyatt Toregas had three hits each for Lake County.
