Traffic complaints delay Pa. developer's plans

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Waynesboro developer Ronnie Martin will have to wait a month before he knows if the Borough Council will approve his final plans for a 105-unit housing development on a 27-acre tract he owns at the end of Tritle and Frick avenues.

Martin has met all borough ordinance requirements, Kevin Grubbs, head of borough engineering, told the council. The Waynesboro Planning Commission has recommended approval.

The council was also told by Borough Solicitor Lloyd Reichard that it was bound by law to approve Martin's project because it meets all borough zoning requirements.

The council balked at giving Martin the go-ahead after more than 20 neighborhood residents complained at Wednesday's meeting that Tritle and Frick avenues, the only streets in and out of the new development, would create bottlenecks at their intersections with West Main Street.

Martin told the residents that he is trying to "give people what you already have, affordable housing."

No one who spoke opposed the project itself, only the traffic problems it would create in their neighborhood.

Martin bought the land from the Frick Co. The council, at his request last year, rezoned it from industrial to residential.

Councilman Charles "Chip" McCammon's motion to approve the project died for lack of a second. The council agreed to hold off any further action until its Aug. 17 meeting.




WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Local builder Brent Sanders submitted the highest bid, $111,000, for a borough-owned house at 141 Fifth Avenue, according to a bid opening Wednesday by the Borough Council.

Marissa Pinto of Harrisburg, Pa., submitted the next highest bid at $101,502. The third and lowest bid was submitted by Sally Sussman of Waynesboro.

The council accepted Borough Manager Lloyd Hamberger's recommendation that the council accept Sanders' bid since it came in above the appraised value of the property.

The borough has owned the century old brick home since the 1960s. It was rented to a local family for years.
