Area roundup - Musselman hires Campbell as new AD

July 21, 2005

INWOOD, W.Va. (AP) - Musselman High School has hired an alumnus as athletic director.

Steve Campbell, a 1983 Musselman graduate, replaces Charlie Cline, who recently stepped down after 29 years at the school.

Campbell spent the last five years as the head football coach at James Wood High School in Virginia and had been hired as a physical education teacher at Musselman for the upcoming school year. He also planned to help out Coach Denny Price with the football team.

Now he will be responsible for the entire athletic program.

"I think one of the biggest things is that he is a Musselman boy. He knows the pride that we have in the school," Cline said.

"He knows what we're trying to do there. We're trying to have as much class as you can. We're trying to run a clean program with honor."

Campbell was the athletic director for Hancock for seven years in the 1990s. He also coached football there.

The 1991 Shepherd graduate also served as Shepherd's wide receivers coach for four years.

The Morgan County Board of Education approved hiring Barcus on Tuesday.

Last year, Barcus coached the varsity boys basketball team at Paw Paw. He said he is not concerned about the transition from basketball to baseball.
