BLUE RIDGE SUMMIT, Pa. - Wednesday, July 20, noon, home of Eunice Statler. Rebecca Wertime, with Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay, will speak about environmental problems, solutions and how people can make a difference. Bring a lunch for the box lunch auction which will follow the talk.

Pig roast, fried chicken dinner

Saturday, July 23, 3 to 6 p.m., Mt. Zion Lutheran Church Friendship Hall, Locust Grove Road, four miles south on Md. 67, left on Locust Grove Road. Menu includes all-you-can-eat roast pork, fried chicken, baked beans, baked macaroni, coleslaw, potato salad, dessert and beverage. Cost is $9 advance tickets or $10 at the door, adults; $6 advance or $7 at the door for ages 6 to 12; and ages 5 and younger eat free. Call 301-432-2804.

Gospel hymn sing

Saturday, July 23, 3 p.m., Wolfsville Ruritan Club main pavilion on park grounds. From Hagerstown, go east on U.S. 40 eight miles, left on Pleasant Walk Road; at four-way stop cross intersection onto Stottlemeyer Road and stay on road to Brandenburg Hollow Road, turn left to park. From Frederick, Md., go west on U.S. 40 for 14 miles, to right on Pleasant Walk Road, then follow directions above. Featured groups are Gospel Travelers, By Faith, Spirit Filled Messengers, For His Glory, Harry Ryan and the Down Home Gospel Singers. Admission is free. Refreshments available include hamburgers, hot dogs, country ham sandwiches, french fries and ice cream. Proceeds support community activities, park maintenance and scholarships. Chicken barbecue

BEDINGTON, W.Va. - Saturday, July 23, Bedington Ruritan Club building, U.S. 11, near Crossroads store. $7 for one-half chicken, baked beans, coleslaw, applesauce, roll and beverage; or $5.50 for chicken and roll. Ride for Kids fun show

BOONSBORO - For the benefit of Childrens Hospital in Washington, D.C., Sunday, July 24, 10 a.m., Blue Ridge Riding Club, Md. 66 (Mapleville Road). The event will include the usual horse show classes and stick horses for very young children. A representative from Childrens Hospital will be present to answer questions. $4 entry fee for members, or $25 all day; $5 entry fee for nonmembers or $30 all day. Call 1-304-274-5732.

Christmas in July

ST. THOMAS, Pa. - Sponsored by the Keystone Chapter of ABATE of Pennsylvania for the benefit of The Salvation Army, Sunday, July 24, 1 to 6 p.m., Detrich-Brechbill American Legion Post 612, U.S. 30. The event will include music by Phat Katz, food and beverage concession, vendors, door prizes. A Santa's Parade ride to the event, will meet at M&S Harley Davidson in Chambersburg, Pa. Parade forms no later than 12:30 p.m. and leaves at 1 p.m. Cost is $10 or a new toy per person.


Dawson family reunion

Sunday, July 24, eat at 1 p.m., Hager Park, Frederick Street at Memorial Boulevard, Hagerstown. Bring a covered dish and beverages. Meat provided. There will be games and door prizes.
