Auditions ongoing for One Act Play Festival


BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Auditions for parts in the Morgan Arts Council's One Act Play Festival are scheduled to continue tonight and Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Ice House in downtown Berkeley Springs.

Six plays are featured offering roles for men and women of high school age and older. "It's a terrific chance for people to get involved, whether you have never acted before or whether you've been doing it for years," producer Mary Alice Ross said in a news release.

People also are needed to help with costuming, scenery and other aspects of stagecraft.

The six plays will be directed by first-time directors including Pat and Larry Springer, Abbie Brown, Kimberly Jensen and David Young. Playwrights include Sally Brinkman, Kate Evans, Joe McCabe and Larry Springer.

The One Act Play Festival will run for two weekends opening Sept. 16 at the Ice House.

Annual carnival runs through Saturday


BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - The 2005 Berkeley Springs Volunteer Fire Co. Carnival continues through Saturday night at the U.S. Silica grounds off U.S. 522 north of town.

Each night features food, games and music with proceeds benefiting the fire company.

The music and entertainment lineup includes:

  • Tonight: Nashville recording artist Bob Plunkert and Real Country.

  • Wednesday: Ken Mellons, "The Jukebox Junkie."

  • Thursday: Hillbillygirl recording artists Tori Anderson and Possum Holler.

  • Friday: Karaoke contest featuring special judges and prizes at 7 p.m. First 30 registered after 6:30 p.m. are entered. The rock band Vaepor will follow.

  • Saturday: Country and rock variety band Cheyenne. Show times are 7 and 9:30 p.m.



Show times today through Friday are 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Other Friday events include a baby contest at 6 p.m.
