Girl Scouts of Shawnee Council honored outstanding Scouts and volunteers at a Council Recognitions ceremony May 7 in Winchester, Va.

Thirty-one Senior Girl Scouts from 11 Senior troops earned the Gold Award, the top award in Girl Scouts. To earn the award, a Scout must earn four interest project patches on topics related to the Gold Award project; earn the Career Exploration pin, Senor Girl Scout Leadership Award and Senior Girl Scout Challenge; and plan and implement a Girl Scout Gold Award project that requires at least 50 hours of work.

Area Gold Award recipients included:

Barbie Barvir of Hagerstown, Troop 897, daughter of John and Jane Barvir, Troop 897.

Danielle Grant of Hagerstown, Troop 243, daughter of Lisa Grant.

Leah Shaffer of Falling Waters, W.Va., Troop 406, daughter of Kimberly and Kenneth Shaffer.

Lindsay Carlson of Martinsburg, W.Va., Troop 406, daughter of Vicki Marts and Mark Carlson.

Jillian Greuber of Martinsburg, Troop 406, daughter of Kelly and James Greuber.

Kayla Smith of Martinsburg, Troop 406, daughter of Susan and Bill Smith.

Thirty volunteers were also recognized at the May 7 event.

Lynne Seibert of Martinsburg received the most prestigious award, the Thanks Badge.

Midge Heimer of Hagerstown received a 45-year pin. Laura Waicul of Hagerstown and Shawn Fore of Bunker Hill, W.Va., received Appreciation Pins.
