Winchester Medical Center wins quality award

WINCHESTER, Va. - Winchester Medical Center is a 2005 winner of the Premier Award for Quality in the area of acute myocardial infarction (heart attack).

This nationally-recognized award honors clinical excellence in both quality of care and operational efficiency, differentiating its winners as industry leaders that deliver outstanding patient care while reducing the cost of healthcare by improving resource utilization.

The Premier Award for Quality, given in five clinical areas and based on quality and cost data, is distinguished by its consideration of performance-based criteria including clinical quality outcomes, clinical process indicators and resource utilization outcomes. Performance within each area is given equal weight.

Doctor joins staff of City Urgent Care

INWOOD, W.Va. - Joe Powell, director of physician practices for Gateway Health Services, has announced that Cameron D. Duffy, MD has joined the medical staff at City Urgent Care.


For the past four years, Duffy has been the medical director of Jefferson Urgent Care in Charles Town, W.Va. Prior to that, he was a staff physician at Berkeley Family Medicine Associates in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Duffy will work primarily in City Urgent Care's Inwood office, and also will assist Medical Director William Dressler at the Martinsburg location as needed.

City Hospital program earns accreditation

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - The Continuing Medical Education program at City Hospital in Martinsburg was recently surveyed by the West Virginia State Medical Association and awarded accreditation for three years as a provider of continuing medical education for physicians.

WVSMA accreditation seeks to assure that both the physicians and City Hospital's CME program meet the high standards of the Essentials and Guidelines and the Standards for Commercial Support as specified by the WVSMA.

Nursing assistant honored at The Shook Home

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Susan Rebert, certified nursing assistant at The Shook Home since Sept. 25, 1997, has been chosen as Nursing Assistant of the Year. Rebert was chosen for this award during National Nursing Assistant week in June. She was nominated by her peers on the basis of attitude, commitment to excellence, attendance, and being a team player.
