Lions hold 3rd annual student recognition night

FUNKSTOWN - The Funkstown Lions Club held its third annual student recognition night at the club's June dinner meeting at the Plaza Hotel.

Emma K. Doub fifth-grade students Rebecca Delauter and Scott Hovermale were presented with $100 saving bonds as winners of the principal's citizenship award.

The club also donated $400 to the school to support classroom activities.

Early "Petey" Bates community service scholarships in the amount of $500 were awarded to graduating South Hagerstown High School seniors Elizabeth Hill and Shauntelle Kane. Both were selected based on their applications emphasizing community service.

Elizabeth plans to attend Hagerstown Community College and pursue a career in physical therapy. Shauntelle plans to attend Utah Valley State College and pursue a career in elementary education.

The award winners, their families and Emma K. Doub Principal Kristi Bachtell and her husband were dinner guests of the Lions Club.
