KEARNEYSVILLE, W.Va. - A Virginia man died Sunday morning after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a pickup truck at the intersection of W.Va. 9 and W.Va. 480 in Kearneysville, a Jefferson County Sheriff's Department spokesman said.

Based on witness accounts, the driver of the 1997 Dodge pickup truck, who was headed south on W.Va. 480 toward Leetown, might have gone through a red light at the intersection, Cpl. Ward Sigler said.

The motorcyclist, who was traveling east on W.Va. 9 on a 1992 Harley-Davidson, did not have enough room to stop, and skidded before striking the side of the truck, Sigler said.

The crash occurred about 11 a.m.

The motorcyclist and a female passenger on the motorcycle were from Annandale, Va., Sigler said.

Sigler could not release names of people involved in the crash Sunday night because family members had not been notified, he said.

The woman on the motorcycle was taken to Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson, W.Va., although her injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, Sigler said.

A female passenger and a third passenger, possibly a child, in the truck were not hurt, Sigler said.

The intersection was shut down for about an hour while police and rescue crews worked at the scene, Sigler said.
