July 11, 2005

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The Hagerstown Suns were silenced by West Virginia pitcher Yovani Gallardo on Sunday in a 2-1 loss to the Power.

The Suns, 5-12 in the South Atlantic League's second half, were able to reach Gallardo for only two hits through eight innings.

Hagerstown, down 1-0 through seven innings, tied the game 1-1 in the eighth inning when Mike Carp was hit by a pitch and Russ Triplett, running for Carp, scored on a double by Ryan Coultas.

Otherwise, Gallardo yielded only a single by Carlos Gomez while striking out five and walking only two.

The Suns wasted a five-inning effort by Tim Worthington, who allowed only one run and four hits. The loss went to Bo Bowman, who gave up a run-scoring double by Grant Richardson in the bottom of the eighth inning.
