Two killed in Frederick Co. vehicle crash

FREDERICK, Md. - A Roundhill, Va., man and his 8-year-old son were killed Thursday night in Frederick County when the Ford F-250 in which they were riding struck a guardrail and overturned, Maryland State Police said in a news release.

The accident occurred as the 2002 Ford F-250 driven by James Loveless Jr., 39, of Roundhill, was westbound on Interstate 70 near South Street about 11 p.m. The truck left the road, struck a guardrail, then struck the overpass bridge rail and overturned, according to the release.

The front seat passenger, Chris Coffelt, 44, and the rear seat passenger, Matthew Coffelt, 8, were killed in the crash, police said.

Loveless and rear seat passenger James Loveless III, 8, were taken to Johns Hopkins University Hospital by ambulance.

The road was closed for 90 minutes and traffic was diverted off I-70 to South Street, according to the release.
