Area roundup - Funkstown, Berkeley get tourney wins

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Funkstown and Berkeley Post 14 each notched wins at the Berkeley Post 14 Summer Invitational Tournament at P.O. Faulkner Park on Thursday.

Berkeley went about things a little more easily, picking up a forefit win from Damascus Post 171, while Funkstown knocked off the Greater Loudoun Lions, 6-4.

Tim Kellinger led Funkstown (25-6) with two hits, including his sixth home run of the season. Kevin Brashears added three hits and David Warrenfeltz added two.

Wade Gelbert and Matt Legg each had three hits to lead Greater Loudoun.

Youth baseball camp

There are still openings for the 13th annual Diamonds in the Rough baseball camp July 11-14 at Marty Snook Park in Halfway.

The camp, which runs from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day, is open to boys and girls ages 7-17 and features instruction from former Frostburg State coach Phil Caruso, former Boonsboro High School coach Fred Kreiger, Jefferson coach John Lowery, Catoctin coach Mike Franklin, Clear Spring coach Mark Shives and others. Cost is $125 per camper.
