County election filing begins

Filing opened Tuesday for those planning to run for several county offices up for grabs on the 2006 ballot.

Posts for five Washington County Commissioners seats, county executive and county treasurer, three School Board seats, sheriff, state's attorney, clerk of the Circuit Court, register of wills and judges of the Orphan's Court are open, according to information provided by the Washington County Board of Elections.

The deadline to file for the offices is July 3, 2006, said Kaye Robucci, county Board of Elections election deputy director.

The primary election will be Sept. 12, 2006, and the general election is scheduled for Nov. 7, 2006, according to Election Board information.

State office elections for governor, lieutenant governor, comptroller, attorney general, state senator, House of Delegates and judge of the circuit court will run concurrently with the county elections. Election Board information states that federal offices that are open for U.S. senator and U.S. House of Representatives also will appear on the ballots.

State office races for judges of the court of special appeals and judges of the court of appeals will only appear on the general election ballot, according to Election Board information.
