Bitner-Henry Insurance moves to new quarters

July 03, 2005

After nearly 70 years on West Washington Street, Bitner-Henry Insurance has moved its offices to 401 E. Antietam St.

This third-generation family business has been steadily growing since Stephen Henry and his wife Carol joined the agency in 1989, and has outgrown its current space, according to information from the company.

"After rearranging the office several times and continually running out of office space, I decided it was time to move," said Stephen Henry, who is now the owner.

The company has 17 employees and approximately 3,000 customers. The people and businesses served range from the Tri-State area to North Carolina.

The insurance agency has been serving the Tri-State area since 1938. Stephen Henry's grandfather, Orville Bitner, was joined by Stephen Henry's father, Harold Henry, in 1954.

Initially they began looking for people who owned cars so they could offer automobile insurance. The insurance agency has changed and evolved into a state-of-the-art agency that sells all kinds of insurance including home, auto, business, life and health insurance, the agency said.

Henry said he hopes that the move into a newer and larger facility will enable his agency to continue to grow and expand to better serve the community.
