"Back in I think 1940 there was a song and the name of the song was 'I'm a plain old country boy' and I'm sure it was Eddy Arnold that recorded it. I can't find anything about it. Somebody told me they didn't think it was Eddy Arnold. There are certainly a lot of people who remember the '40s and if you remember this song and it was about living on a farm, please call me at 301-739-2198."

- Maugansville

"I also live in Greenberry Hills and I don't want street lights added to my electric or tax bill. What I would like to have and have been paying for for 40 years and never got is normal water pressure."

- Halfway

"The only reason to buy The Daily Mail is to read Tim Rowland but I fear that now he has subjected his buddy Jack Russell terrier to the forces of PETA. I defend both Tim and Jake."

"On Father's Day this year my husband and I were in an automobile accident in the 500 block of East Main Street in Middletown, Md. We were on our way home to Sharpsburg when my husband became dizzy and lost control of the van he was driving. We were really blessed when a wonderful couple, also from Sharpsburg, stopped to give us assistance. They were really so very helpful and we just wanted to say thank you fine folks for your help. We can't tell you how much your presence there helped us."

- Sharpsburg

"I don't care what sort of a smile George Bush wants to put on it, Iraq is looking more and more and more like Vietnam, a war that should not have been fought, a war where we had no place being there. We need to impeach George now before he continues to ruin America."

- Halfway

"As a Hagerstonian, I would like to compliment whoever is involved in getting the beautiful old homes restored on South Prospect Street. I think it's great."

- Hagerstown

"U.S. flags are being made in communist China. Do they have the same meaning? Flag- draped coffins with a U.S. flag made in China? That is just as bad as Donald Rumsfeld not signing the death certificates of the fallen soldiers that come back from Iraq. He didn't have time to personally sign them so he stamped them."

- Clear Spring

"I would like to say congratulations to the Silver Starlettes majorettes and color guard for attending the Ocean City Fireman's Association Parade. Color guard won first place and the majorettes won second place. Way to go, kids, you do strut your stuff good."

- Washington County

"For any of those veterans who keep complaining about the monument on Memorial Boulevard, there is a beautiful monument at Blooms Park on North Potomac Street for all disabled veterans, past, present and future."

- Sharpsburg

"I heard an idea and I thought I would pass it along and see if we the people can do something about it. The idea is that all living holders of a Congressional Medal of Honor be exempt from all state and federal income taxes. Those folks have paid their dues. Please write your congressman and your state representatives and see if we can at least do something better for these folks who have given so much for us."
