Lottery players from area win big

Maryland Lottery officials said Tuesday that two recent winning tickets in separate games were sold at Hagerstown-area stores, and one winner had not yet claimed his earnings.

A $50,000 winning ticket in Monday's Bonus Match 5 drawing was sold at Wooden Keg Liquors east of Hagerstown, according to a Maryland Lottery news release.

Joe Walker, manager of the liquor store, said Tuesday that the winner had stopped in and probably would be claiming the prize soon. Walker declined to identify the winner.

"He's a pretty good customer. ... He's kind of a quiet guy. He's pretty happy," Walker said.

Walker said this was the largest prize won through a ticket sold at his store.

Lottery officials also said Peggy Jones recently won $20,000 in the Crossword Double Bonus scratch-off game.

That ticket was purchased at Old Orchard Liquors on Virginia Avenue, officials said.
