Annual Fly-in at Pa. airport to raise money for Angel Flight

July 01, 2005

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The USUA Millennium Flyers Club 201 and the Chambersburg Skydiving Center will host the sixth annual Mercy Medical/Angel Flight Fly-in on Saturday, July 23, at the Franklin County Regional Airport.

The day-long event begins at 8 a.m. and will feature classic and ultralight aircraft displays and rides, raffles, food and activities for children at the former Chambersburg Municipal Airport.

Mercy Medical/Angel Flight is a nonprofit organization that provides air transport services for patients in need of medical treatment far from home.

Event coordinator Kathryn Ridgway said every $100 raised generates $500 in air transport services because the volunteer pilots of Angel Flight donate their time and the use of their aircraft.

Last year, Angel Flight transported 720 patients, many of them children, from Franklin, Fulton, Adams and Cumberland counties and Washington County, Md., for medical treatments, Ridgway said.

Named the United States Ultralight Association's Club of the Year for 2004, the Millennium Flyers are seeking sponsors to donate money, gift certificates or services for the event. The deadline to become a sponsor is July 15, she said.

The rain date for the event is Sunday, July 24.
