Here are some of the calls we have received lately:

"This is in reference to some of the fast-food restaurants in the area. Please make sure the food is fully cooked. Children eat this food and it can make them sick if it's not handled correctly. Make sure you keep it at proper temperatures once it is cooked because this can also make children sick. I wonder if the Health Department does surprise inspections? If they don't, they should."

"I saw in Mail Call where this person that owns a home in Hagerstown was complaining because they thought the inspections were set up for rental property and not homeowners and they don't think that's right. You tell me what's right. If I have a rental property and I have to pay $45 a unit for them to inspect mine and they nitpick at everything even so much as the fact that there are weeds in the lawn, then homeowners should be inspected, too."

- Hagerstown

"We want to congratulate Katie for graduating from North Hagerstown High School and for making the honor roll all four marking periods. We are proud of you and we love you. Nan-Nan and Pappy."

- Hagerstown

"I just learned an interesting fact, Rev. Billy Graham is a Democrat. Praise the Lord."

- Washington County

"I'd like to comment on the person who called in about people receiving disability but yet they are doing yard work and gardening. Why are they so worried about the people doing yard work and gardening while they are on disability? Why are they watching them? Don't they have a life or a job? They walk around and catch people doing yard work on disability. Get a life and quit following people around."

- Hagerstown

"I'd just like to thank the people at Chestnut Grove Bible Church for having such a super Vacation Bible School for the kids last week. That little church is hidden way down the road by Chestnut Grove Park but they are doing a great thing down there. The pastor really cares about the people down there. He took time to come to my door and personally invite my kids to Bible school. The kids had a fantastic time so thanks to the Chestnut Grove folks for all of your hard work. It's really appreciated."

- Morrisville

"Congratulations to Clear Spring High School FFA for finishing fifth in the state competition last week."

- Clear Spring

"To the woman whose son got a job making over $7 a hour. How old is he and does he have children because that does make a difference?"

- Hagerstown

"I was reading in Mail Call about the individual who collects newspapers. There is a home for developmentally disabled individuals who are on a recycling crew. It's called Star Community on Broadfording Church Road. The phone number is 301-791-0011, ext.111. Please talk to Kelly about having your newspapers picked up."

"I'm calling in reference to people going around smoking and so forth. I think it's ridiculous that people can't go anywhere in public without people smoking. I don't feel they should push smoking onto other people, their habits and all."

- Greencastle, Pa.

"I would like to congratulate my daughter, Jessica, for graduating from Hedgesville High School and maintaining a 4.0 GPA this entire senior year. I'm very proud of you, Jessica. I love you, your Mom."

"I'm calling to thank the gentleman and the woman at AC&T in Smithsburg. When my car stopped working at a gas pump they helped me push my car to the side with two young children in the car. You don't find people like that anymore and it's really nice that they were willing to help a stranger and I really appreciate the help they gave me."

- Smithsburg

"I work in the human services building and I see people abuse Social Security checks on a regular basis. We turn them in but it's such a long delay before anything happens that they continue to draw their checks."

- Hagerstown

"I called a roofer about stains on my roof and he came out and told me my shingles didn't need to be replaced. He referred me to the new roof cleaner in town and they did a wonderful job and my roof looks great. It cost a whole lot less than putting on a new roof that I didn't need. I want to thank the roofer for being so honest and not taking advantage of me. God bless you."

- Washington County

"This subject is about the water fountains in Fairgrounds Park. I am a senior citizen and I live in the city and I think it's a beautiful park and they have done a great job but I didn't have a water bottle with me and when I went to ask the maintenance person they told me the fountain has very low pressure. Something needs to be done about this."
