Mail call from 6/27

June 28, 2005

"To the person who hit and killed Tommy, my yellow and white cat, on Gardenview Road in Maugansville. I hope you have the opportunity to lose a pet that you love some day. You could have at least had the decency to at least offer your condolences. You took his life and never even looked back. The sheriff's deputies say its speeders, but speed is not what sent Tommy to an early grave."

- Maugansville

"The person who is worried about the dead animal in the road and said that you had been calling for the past two weeks, there is one thing you could do and that's stop and take two minutes out of your busy schedule and scoop it off to the side of the road. If you look at the job description of everybody in the public works department, nobody's job description indicates they pick up dead animals. So it's not actually their job."

"Can someone please help me? I am trying to find my daughter's fourth-grade class picture that was taken at Salem Avenue Elementary School for the Class of 2000-2001. If you have that class picture for that year, can I please borrow it to make a copy? And I will return it back to you also with a small reward."

"Here is one more reason why the hospital should be built at Robinwood. My daughter had an emergency in our family and there was no parking left in the emergency room parking lot. She parked on the street and was over her time and then you get back and there is a $10 ticket on there. Let's put it out at Robinwood."

- Sharpsburg

"The caller from Hagerstown put in there that they wanted to know what the blue flag with the white X on it is. It's the St. Andrews cross which is the Scottish national flag."

- Funkstown

"I'd like to congratulate my daughter, Marissa, for making the honor roll twice in a row. You make me so very proud. I love you, Mom."

- Hagerstown

"I would like to suggest that people having yard sales make their signs large enough and legible enough so that they can be read from the vehicles."

- Hagerstown

"This is an answer to the person who called for mandatory testing for all drivers over the age of 65 or under the age of 25. Saying that all people in these age groups are bad drivers is stereotyping. If testing would be required for these groups of people, then there certainly should be psychiatric evaluations for everyone who lacks the patience to cope with other drivers on the road as well as IQ testing of anyone who thinks other drivers can cause them to do something that they know better than doing. That's like saying the devil made me do it."

- Boonsboro

"This is for the offended veterans, the name of the street is Memorial Boulevard not Veterans Boulevard, so quit whining and let the city have a monument for those who gave their lives."

- Washington County

"To the person who found a checkbook left at Save-a-Lot in Hagerstown. If you could call Mail Call, I'd appreciate it."

- Keedysville

"Our president's policies deeply divide our country but have no impact on those closest to him. He sent our troops into battle yet neither one of his daughters serves in the military. He wants to take away a woman's right to choose, yet his wife Laura is pro-choice. He speaks out against homosexuality but yet his vice-president's daughter is gay. As far as Social Security, do you ever think they would depend on Social Security to pay their bills?"

"I believe that more should be done to check to see if these mothers who are getting child support are taking care of their kids right. Me and my husband raised two of the kids that their mother abandoned and she didn't pay one cent but he had to pay her for one child and he didn't get to see the kid or anything. I just think more should be done to make sure the checks are going to the children."

"In spite of all the negative comments about our country, town and county, I would like to say I am proud to be an American. I love my country and I think Maryland is a great state and as a lifelong resident of Halfway and Greenberry Hills, I think our founding fathers of our country, state and Hagers-town have done a superb job. I love where I live. God bless America."

- Halfway

"I just think all the fire companies and rescue squads that have carnivals should be commended for their hard work. We were at the Fairplay carnival last week and the people down there are so nice and the food was just great. They had a real good fireworks display on Saturday night and I just think they should be commended for all of their hard work."

- Boonsboro

"This is to the person who called and said the city wasted $300,000. They didn't waste it. The guy was a professional. They didn't know anything about the deal. You know what, the hospital has wasted millions because they thought the city would just roll over and play dead and let them move it wherever they wanted."

"I recommend that any type of memorial for service people be bestowed on all veterans who served in the military."

- Hagerstown
