Man wanted on theft, assault charges nabbed

A man wanted in connection with crimes allegedly committed within an hour of the release of several Maryland Division of Correction prisoners this month has been taken into custody, according to Maryland State Police.

Police said a man wanted in connection with the theft of a vehicle, an attempted robbery of a woman and an assault was taken into custody in Baltimore and charged. The official charges against the man and information on his most recent stint in prison were not available through state police or the Washington County Sheriff's Department late Wednesday.

Police allege the man assaulted, demanded money from and unsuccessfully tried to take keys from a Hagers-town woman who was parked near the Wendy's restaurant on Sharpsburg Pike on June 10. The man was arrested in Baltimore while driving a vehicle reported stolen near a bus stop on Sharpsburg Pike, police allege.
