Va. man dies in I-70 accident

June 20, 2005

NEW MARKET, Md. - A Strasburg, Va., man was killed Friday when his pickup truck crossed into the oncoming lanes of Interstate 70 and was hit by a minivan, Maryland State Police said.

Police had not released the 23-year-old man's name by Saturday night.

Donald Duckett Jr. of Prattville, Ala., who was driving the minivan that hit the man's 1986 Toyota truck, was flown by police helicopter to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. He was listed in fair condition Saturday night.

Police did not give Duckett's age.

Police said the Strasburg man was driving fast and recklessly east on I-70. He lost control about 5:20 p.m., east of Mussetter Road, and his truck went over the median, police said.

In the westbound lanes, Duckett's Dodge Caravan hit the man's truck. The Strasburg man was killed immediately, police said.

Two other vehicles - a Dodge van and a Jeep - were damaged, but the occupants were not injured, police said.
