A Hagerstown woman was charged with first- and second-degree assault and reckless endangerment Sunday after she turned herself in to police at the Hagerstown Police Department's headquarters, according to court records and a department news release.

Police said in the release that a stabbing incident was reported just after 2 a.m. at the Washington Gardens apartment complex in the 900 block of Security Road. Police said Candice D. McDonald of Hagerstown was stabbed in the left arm and flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.

A trauma center spokesperson could not be reached late Sunday for her condition.

According to court records, Wendy Renee Wagner, 25, of 38 Fairground Ave., was charged in the incident.

Records state Wagner and McDonald were involved in an argument at the Sheetz store on East Washington Street. Police said Wagner and a passenger followed McDonald to her residence.

McDonald said she was stabbed while having a conversation with Wagner's passenger, and that Wagner said nothing before McDonald was cut, records state.

Wagner said she did not attempt to intentionally stab McDonald and did not know it happened until she saw the blood, police said.
