Martinsburg graduate receives award from school

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Matthew S. Armel, a 2004 graduate of Martinsburg High School, was the recipient of the Fairmont State Associate of Applied Science Academic Achievement Award for Outstanding Scholastic Achievement in Engineering Technology.

Armel is a member of the honors program at Fairmont, and has remained on the dean's list with a 3.8 grade-point average. He is a West Virginia PROMISE Scholar.

He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Greenfield and Mr. and Mrs. Shannon Armel, and the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. James Streets and Mr. and Mrs. LaGarde Armel, all of Martinsburg.

Students make dean's list at Bucknell University

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell University has released its dean's list for the spring semester of the 2004-05 academic year.


A student must earn a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher on a scale of 4.0 to receive dean's list recognition.

Students from the local area on the list include:

  • David G. Allen of Emmitsburg, Md., son of Jay and Susan Allen and a graduate of Catoctin High School in Thurmont, Md.

  • Katherine A. Keller of Waynesboro, Pa., daughter of David and Dawn Keller and a 2004 graduate of Mercersburg (Pa.) Academy.

  • Kevin E. Kroepil of Chambersburg, Pa., son of Joseph and Kathy Kroepil and a 2002 graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School.

  • Julie A. Lesko of Waynesboro, Pa, daughter of Bruce and Beth Lesko and a 2003 graduate of Waynesboro Area Senior High School.

  • Rebecca F. Scheffter of Mount Airy, Md., daughter of Kenneth and Barbara Scheffter and a 2003 graduate of Linganore High School in Ijamsville, Md.

  • Michael R. Schoonmaker of Chambersburg, Pa., son of Stephen and Sharon Schoonmaker and a 2004 graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School.

  • Alexandra M. Skovira of Walkersville, Md., daughter of Brian and Elaina Skovira and a 2003 graduate of Walkersville High School.

  • Linell A. Stabler of Cogan Station, Pa., daughter of Martin Reese and a graduate of Shippensburg (Pa.) Area Senior High School.
